Poulsen Is Staying At Juventus After Zanetti Sale - Ferrara

Juventus coach Ciro Ferrara talked about the sale of midfielder Cristiano Zanetti to Fiorentina and the team's situation. It once seemed certain that Danish midfielder Christian Poulsen would leave Juventus this summer after just one season in Turin. However, the club's surprising decision to sell Cristiano Zanetti to Fiorentina has changed the situation.

Coach Ciro Ferrara revealed that the former Sevilla player will no longer leave the club."Zanetti had this chance to leave for Fiorentina and extend the length of his contract, and he did," he said to RealSports.it. "I don't want to force anyone to stay. In any case we are covered in that role, also because at this point Poulsen will no longer leave."Christian has always trained with seriousness and effort and I also complimented him for the professionalism he showed during the training camp."On the team's situation as a whole, Ferrara commented: "We are doing well despite the defeat to Villarreal. One defeat cannot change our plans or affect our confidence. We still have the intention to build a team which has consistency and which aims for important targets."

After impressing in the Peace Cup, in which they beat Real Madrid 2-1, Juventus recently stumbled to a 4-1 defeat to Villarreal.

Why sell Zanetti?

questions how wise it was for Juventus to sell Cristiano Zanetti to Fiorentina

It doesn’t make sense. It just doesn’t. Why have Juventus, on the eve of a season when they do seem to be competitive enough to fight Inter for Lo Scudetto, sold Cristiano Zanetti to Fiorentina?
Granted, it’s not the biggest transfer shock of a summer which has seen Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic move for ludicrous amounts of money, but Zanetti’s £1.5m switch to Tuscany is, in its own way, a major surprise.
More than that, it could turn out to be a potentially costly own goal by the Bianconeri officials who had spent most of July and August repairing the damage caused by their calcio mercato deficiencies over the past 36 months.
Granted, he did have less than a year left on his contract in Turin, but he was sold for such a measly figure that finances shouldn’t have been the deciding factor. And even if Zanetti left at his own request, surely Juve could have convinced him to offer his services for just another 12 months?
It’ll be up to the major players in the move [Zanetti himself and Juve sporting director Alessio Secco] to answers those questions, but the fact remains that La Signora are now missing a potentially vital element in their ranks. Although Zanetti’s fragile muscles mean that he isn’t physically up to the challenge of a whole season uninterrupted, he was unique to the Old Lady.
Zanetti was not just an ordinary midfielder for the Italian giants, he was their only playmaker, the man in their ranks who could organise and dictate the tempo of the whole side. The only deep-lying central midfielder with true vision and one of only a few in the squad who can pass a ball accurately over 40 metres.

His departure is all the more noteworthy given that Juventus opted against signing the more creative Gaetano D’Agostino recently by spending £20m plus on the Viola’s Felipe Melo. Possibly because they already had Zanetti at their disposal. Perhaps Martin Caceres, despite the assurances of Secco last week, won’t be the club’s last summer buy after all…

Back on the field this afternoon

10 August 2009
Ciro Ferrara will be working for the first time with a reduced squad, a constant during the season leading to the South Africa world cup in 2010. In view of the next qualifying matches, Wednesday will see a number of friendly matches involving many bianconeri.
In all 12 players will be on international duty: Buffon, Cannavaro, Chiellini, Marchisio, Camoranesi, Iaquinta, Grygera, Melo, Poulsen, Tiago, Ariaudo and Kirev (see match programme). Together with these will be trainer Massimo Neri (who has joined the English national team) and physiotherapist Aldo Esposito.
The team will begin working in view of the next matches. The first is round the corner: the traditional vernissage at Villar perosa. Like every year, Juventus will visit the Agnelli residence for the match against the Primavera.

Juventus' Marchisio Upset By Cristiano Zanetti Sale

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio is struggling to comprehend the club's decision to sell veteran Cristiano Zanetti, who officially joined Fiorentina on Monday.

"Zanetti to the Viola? I haven't spoken to him, but I did not expect this," he sighed to firenzeviola.it.

"In both my role and as a person, the fact is he helped me a lot and I have great admiration for him. I don't understand why he has been sold."

The 23-year-old is not convinced that the former Inter man's departure will allow him to play more often either.

"Does it mean more space for me? In theory, yes, but with so many commitments we could have both played in a lot of good matches."

Zanetti joined the Bianconeri in 2006, and has been viewed as an excellent servant to the club during his three years in Turin by the Italian press.

Juventus’ Gianluigi Buffon Not Celebrating Inter's Supercoppa Italiana Loss

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has not been left overjoyed by Inter's loss to Lazio in the Supercoppa Italiana, hinting that the Old Lady still have some work to do before they start their competitive campaign.

According to the World Cup winner, he feels his side are still not at the same level in their preparations as the Nerazzurri, especially after the 4-1 friendly loss to Villarreal.
"No, I did not celebrate," he said at Coverciano, where Italy are training ahead of their friendly with Switzerland, according to Datasport.
"We have not yet arrived at these levels."
Meanwhile, he is hoping for a good performance with the Italian national team against Switzerland, when captain Fabio Cannavaro could potentially set an appearance record by winning his 127th cap, surpassing the legendary Paolo Maldini.
"We will try to celebrate Cannavaro’s record by winning and offering good football," he concluded.

OFFICIAL: Fiorentina Sign Cristiano Zanetti From Juventus

Fiorentina have confirmed on their official website that they have signed Juventus midfielder Cristiano Zanetti..

This follows remarks from Zanetti's agent, Carlo Pallavicino, earlier this morning where he confirmed that a deal had been done.
“Fiorentina have got him. The two clubs have an agreement, so does the player," Pallavicino told Violanews.
“I can say this is a good signing for the Tuscans, seeing as I am certain Cristiano is 100 per cent fit and can give a big hand to the Viola.”

The 32-year-old Zanetti, who started his career with the Viola, returns to the Artemio Franchi for a fee of around €2 million and is believed to have signed a three-year deal.

Varying media reports in Italy suggest that the former Italy international will pen a pay-as-you-play deal with the Champions League contenders, and he will be registered by Fiorentina to play in the play-off round against Sporting next week.

Agent confirms Zanetti-Viola deal

Cristiano Zanetti's agent has confirmed the Juventus midfielder is heading to Fiorentina on a three-year contract.
“Fiorentina have got him,” said Carlo Pallavicino on violanews. “The two clubs have an agreement, so does the player.
“I can say this is a good signing for the Tuscans, seeing as I am certain Cristiano is 100 per cent fit and can give a big hand to the Viola.”
It is believed Juventus will receive £1.5m for the 32-year-old and the transfer will be completed later today.

Zanetti started his career in Tuscany and makes his return here, accepting a large pay cut from his current £2m wages at Juve.
Reports state he'll sign a three-year contract worth just £1m per season and will be registered for the Champions League preliminary round against Sporting Lisbon.

Other newspaper claims in La Nazione suggest a pay-as-you-play contract linked to the number of appearances he makes for the Viola.

Juventus’ Decision To Sell Cristiano Zanetti To Fiorentina Is Unexplainable – Carlo Nesti

With Fiorentina on the verge of completing the signing of Juventus midfielder Cristiano Zanetti, Italian football expert Carlo Nesti has announced his incomprehension at the Old Lady’s latest move.

Following a recent discussion on his very own Nesti Channel, the famed journalist outlined how the move could come back to haunt the Bianconeri.

“I am completely taken aback by Zanetti’s sale to Fiorentina,” he declared.

“Whilst it is true that [Juve coach Ciro] Ferrara wants to use the diamond midfield this season, Zanetti was still the ideal replacement for Felipe Melo.

"Added to the fact that Momo Sissoko is set to sit out for at least two months, it seems strange to let Zanetti leave given the circumstances.”

As negotiations are set to be completed in the next 24 hours, it remains to be seen how Zanetti’s departure will affect Juventus over the course of the season.

Juventus Pondering Swoop For Real Madrid’s Fernando Gago

With Cristiano Zanetti expected to complete his switch to Fiorentina in the coming hours, it seems Juventus already have their next transfer move lined up.

According to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport, Alessio Secco is preparing to fly to Spain in a mission that would see the transfer chief bring back Fernando Gago from Real Madrid.

With the Argentine still uncertain of his position with Los Merengues following the club's intense summer spending, it seems the Bianconeri could be on for a good deal if they can convince the player into a switch.

With Momo Sissoko set to sit out through injury for at least two months, the Turin giants aren’t leaving anything to chance as they search for cover in midfield in light of Zanetti’s imminent departure to Florence.
